Article Submission

Do you feel your article would be a perfect fit for Within Kingston?

Within Kingston likes to feature a variety of content in the areas of holistic health, environmental sustainabillity, spirituality, and community.

Writing for a magazine can feel a bit daunting if you haven't written before, so here are a few tips to help.

Tips on writing an article suitable for magazine publication:

1. The article should be informative, offering tips, points of interest, an educational or do-it-yourself section.

2. Make sure you include your references at the bottom of your article, if you are using statistics, data, or quotes make sure that you source your information appropriately.

3. If you are including photos, please ensure that you have the proper permission, and ensure that their credit information is included in what you send along. If you are doing a "how-to" type article, consider including images to help the reader follow along. As well make sure that your photos are high resolution, for best quality.

4. Ask yourself as you read it through, is this easily digestable? Does it get to the point quickly, what is grabbing the reader's interest? Why would they want to read this article? How does it benefit them? Will they get lost in it? How far through the article do they have to go before they catch the message?

View your article in the same way as you would if you were having a conversation, make sure that the article itself is broken down in bite size chunks, and in order, so as to not overwhelm the reader.

5. Read other articles in magazines in print or online, to see how your article can best be laid out, view it as a story to be told, it should have a great headline, flow, climax, and ending. Keeping it simple, makes for a readable easy to follow article.

Once you feel you're ready to submit your article, please follow the guidelines below to ensure that your contribution is suitable for publication in Within Kingston.
